A Bittersweet Memory

One moment in time brings up some memories.

It popped up on Facebook today. A memory. My two siblings and I with my mom on the day she moved into a leveled care nursing facility.

It had been years since the four of us were together in one room. Certainly a bittersweet reason to bring us together. I consider myself so lucky to have the siblings I have. We work well together.

We had no idea that the end was so close. We saw years of visiting her and even the possibility of her improving and moving to a wing of the facility when she had more independent skills. When you love, you hope. You don’t want to let go.

But that was not to be. Within two months she was gone. I am thankful that she did not suffer long in her illness. I am thankful that she was not around for the beginning of the quarantine.

I think of her everyday. I use to call her everyday during my 30 minute drive home. I miss her. I have so many items in my house that remind me of her. I would not have it any other way.
